{"id":7266,"date":"2013-08-05T17:35:41","date_gmt":"2013-08-05T21:35:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=7266"},"modified":"2013-08-05T19:22:45","modified_gmt":"2013-08-05T23:22:45","slug":"international-scone-week-scones-american-style","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=7266","title":{"rendered":"International Scone Week- Scones- American Style"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been eating scones for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>And personally, I like them better UK style.<\/p>\n<p>And Australian style, too, for that matter.<\/p>\n<p>Here in the United States, we have a tendency to add<\/p>\n<p>stuff inside and make them more like a cookie.<\/p>\n<p>We make scokies.&#160; More like a sweet biscuit with<\/p>\n<p>lots of fruit and chocolate inside.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas in the UK, they are like a b<strong>ig fluffy American style,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>but slightly sweet biscuits.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Actually- language fails me- it is all English- but we don\u2019t<\/p>\n<p>have the same definitions- like for scones?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"002\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"002\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/002_thumb.jpg\" width=\"449\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So- since I am an American I went with this scone- Peach Cobbler Scones.<\/p>\n<p>They are light and kind of fluffy- sweet and cinnamon\u201dy\u201d and filled with peaches.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/0042.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"004\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"004\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/004_thumb2.jpg\" width=\"457\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They went really well with a cup of Darjheeling tea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/0012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"001\" style=\"border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"001\" src=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/001_thumb2.jpg\" width=\"478\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And the peaches I used were spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>But I didn\u2019t like them as much as I do UK cream scones with jam and clotted cream.<\/p>\n<p>So- here is the recipe- I got it off of Pinterest.<\/p>\n<p>Peach Cobbler Scones<\/p>\n<p>3 cups AP flour<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 c granulated sugar<\/p>\n<p>3 tsp baking powder<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tsp baking soda<\/p>\n<p>2\/3 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 c cold butter, chapped into small cubes<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 c shortening<\/p>\n<p>1 egg, beaten<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 c cold buttermilk<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp vanilla<\/p>\n<p>1 peach or two peeled, sliced thin<\/p>\n<p>Cinnamon sugar for sprinkling<\/p>\n<p>Method.<\/p>\n<p>Mix all dry ingredients together and cut in butter and shortening<\/p>\n<p>until the butter is pea sized or smaller.<\/p>\n<p>Make a well in the center of flour and pour liquid ingredients into it,<\/p>\n<p>beating egg and milk together and adding flour from the sides of the<\/p>\n<p>well until you have a soft dough.&#160; Clump together with your hand gently<\/p>\n<p>until all the flour is incorporated- do not knead- use more of a folding<\/p>\n<p>technique.&#160; Roll out to a large rectangle,&#160; brush buttermilk or cream on<\/p>\n<p>half of rectangle, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, place the peaches on<\/p>\n<p>the half lined up next to each other and sprinkle again.&#160; Next fold the<\/p>\n<p>other side over the peachy side and press lightly to seal.&#160; Cut into 8 pieces,<\/p>\n<p>using a spatula put the scones on a parchment paper on a&#160; cookie sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Brush tops with cream and sprinkle once again with cinnamon sugar.<\/p>\n<p>Bake at 400 degrees F for 15-18 minutes<\/p>\n<p>These are good served with peaches and cream(whipped) on top.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/006.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"006\" style=\"border-top: 0px;
