I made a lemon meringue pie this week.  I got the recipe from Brydie of cityhippyfarmgirl<\/a>.  It is <\/p>\n

different and delicious and I don\u2019t think I cooked the filling quite long enough.  If you make it- make<\/p>\n

sure it comes to a definite slow boil.<\/p>\n

Frank\u2019s mother made lemon meringue pie with bananas on the bottom.  He wants me to do that for<\/p>\n

him but I can\u2019t.  Really- I just cannot do that.  For one thing- that would NOT be an lemon meringue pie<\/p>\n

and secondly- I hate bananas.   Don\u2019t ask me why she did it- she was a Hungarian woman trying out  <\/p>\n

Canadian desserts and I think she got the pies mixed up.  <\/p>\n

I also made a Rhubarb custard pie-<\/p>\n

which turned out rather well!<\/p>\n

\"003\"<\/a>I wish I could grow rhubarb.  My soil is mostly a heavy clay<\/p>\n

and it doesn\u2019t do well in my garden.  But for $3 a bunch, I will keep on buying it \u2013 that\u2019s not a bad price <\/p>\n

for this tart and tangy treat!<\/p>\n

And there has been bread.  Baked and fried-  I love the fried sourdough- it puffed up into crunchy <\/p>\n

cracker like bread pockets- with kosher salt and sesame seeds- such a treat.<\/p>\n

There will always be bread.<\/p>\n

And arugula!<\/p>\n

My friend,Jane, grew a bumper crop and invited me to come and pick.  <\/p>\n

What a delight.  I made wilted arugula salad.  I used it on a sandwich and it was perfect.<\/p>\n

And I made a pasta salad with arugula mixed with other green leaf lettuces- <\/p>\n

I feasted on arugula last week.<\/p>\n

Notice how I said \u201cI\u201d- Frank said, \u201c Are you kidding me?  Where is the iceberg lettuce?\u201d<\/p>\n

No arugula for Frank.<\/p>\n
