padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"030\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/030_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"030\" width=\"500\" height=\"335\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve made a lot of Irish soda bread.\u00a0 My youngest son loves it and I got the recipe from<\/p>\n<p>a friend of mine of Irish heritage- so I thought I was making a traditional recipe.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out- no.\u00a0 Irish soda bread does not contain sugar, or currants or any kind of dried<\/p>\n<p>fruit whatsoever.<\/p>\n<p>So I\u2019m sharing a recipe I got from a couple of websites on Irish traditional cooking.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of the websites were pretty adamant about what WASN\u2019T in soda bread that<\/p>\n<p>they neglected to give the recipe.\u00a0 And a few more wrote about putting together flour,salt,<\/p>\n<p>soda, and buttermilk without any instructions.\u00a0 So I pieced together the information and used<\/p>\n<p>my own experience and made a marvelous loaf whilst in Chincoteague.\u00a0 It is like a biscuit-y tea<\/p>\n<p>loaf- delicious with butter and orange marmalade- wonderful with a slice of corned beef!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/039.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"039\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/039_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"039\" width=\"510\" height=\"341\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>4 cups plain flour<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon baking soda<\/p>\n<p>1 teaspoon salt<\/p>\n<p>14 oz (1 cup 3\/4 ) buttermilk<\/p>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.\u00a0 Grease and flour round cake pan.<\/p>\n<p>Whisk or sift together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.\u00a0 Add butter milk and stir to a sticky dough.<\/p>\n<p>Dump onto a heavily floured surface and knead lightly- just for a minute or so- you don\u2019t want to<\/p>\n<p>release too much of the leavening gasses in overkneading.<\/p>\n<p>Shape into a large round and cut a cross into the top.\u00a0 Cover pan with another the same size- to keep<\/p>\n<p>the bread moist and steam as well as bake.<\/p>\n<p>Bake for 30 minutes and then remove top pan and bake for another 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The crust is a lovely thick brown when done and will sound hollow when thumped.<\/p>\n<p>Cool with a damp tea towel on to top to keep it moist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/035.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"035\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/035_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"035\" width=\"273\" height=\"407\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>It smells heavenly!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/038.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"038\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/038_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"038\" width=\"280\" height=\"188\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Try to wait till it cools before cutting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/032.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"032\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/032_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"032\" width=\"368\" height=\"550\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although it is very tempting \u2013 still try to wait \u2013 or the knife will crush the crumb.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/040.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none;
