border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"012\" border=\"0\" alt=\"012\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/012_thumb.jpg\" width=\"556\" height=\"372\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My son and grandson read me a story about a baker who baked a bread that lit up her kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>I have made sun shaped bread before- and I wanted to make one<\/p>\n<p> for Aidan to see!<\/p>\n<p>So here is the recipe!<\/p>\n<p>1 cup scalded milk<\/p>\n<p>4 oz. margarine or butter<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp saffron, crushed into powder in your mortar<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup honey<\/p>\n<p>2 tsps rapid rise yeast ( or you could use regular yeast- just put it into the water<\/p>\n<p> with a 1\/2 tsp sugar to proof)<\/p>\n<p>1 cup HOT water<\/p>\n<p>5 1\/2 to 6 cups bread flour<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 cup rye flour<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0045.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"004\" border=\"0\" alt=\"004\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/004_thumb5.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scald the milk, add the saffron and honey, and butter and stir- let the margarine melt,<\/p>\n<p>and give the saffron a chance to turn the milk yellow. <img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none\" class=\"wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-openmouthedsmile\" alt=\"Open-mouthed smile\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/wlEmoticon-openmouthedsmile.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0055.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"005\" border=\"0\" alt=\"005\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/005_thumb5.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mix the flours, salt, and yeast in a large bowl, make a well in the center of the flour<\/p>\n<p>mix and pour both the milk mixture and hot water into the well and stir into the flour.<\/p>\n<p>The dough should be a little sticky- if it is too dry add a little more water. <\/p>\n<p>You don\u2019t need to knead this dough- just mix all the flour into the dough and <\/p>\n<p>put a smear of butter in the bowl.&#160; Flour your hand, pick up the dough and fold it<\/p>\n<p>back into the bowl.&#160; Fold several times smearing the butter around the surface of the<\/p>\n<p>dough and then cover and let it sit for about 10 minutes.&#160; Fold again, at least four times.<\/p>\n<p>Cover and leave it alone for another 10-20 minutes.&#160; Fold again- it should be rather smooth<\/p>\n<p>by now, wipe a little butter across the top of the dough and cover&#160; and leave alone for<\/p>\n<p>about 90 minutes, until doubled in size.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0064.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"006\" border=\"0\" alt=\"006\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/006_thumb4.jpg\" width=\"481\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now shape 9 small oblong pieces and place in a circular shape.<\/p>\n<p>Make a large dough ball and fit it over the ends of the pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Pinch the ends of the pieces so they look like a sun\u2019s rays. <\/p>\n<p>Roll out small ropes of dough and build a face and attach with&#160; the sharp end of a <\/p>\n<p>bamboo skewer- pushing the ropes into place and securing them by going under<\/p>\n<p>the surface lightly.&#160; Brush the top with an egg wash and cover- let raise for about 45<\/p>\n<p>minutes, until it is almost double- and puffy looking and then bake at 375 F until <\/p>\n<p>golden brown- around 35 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0113.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"011\" border=\"0\" alt=\"011\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/011_thumb3.jpg\" width=\"381\" height=\"255\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can shape this dough easily into any form you want-<\/p>\n<p>I also made some star bursts, rolls and a small loaf.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0076.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"007\" border=\"0\" alt=\"007\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/007_thumb6.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0093.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"009\" border=\"0\" alt=\"009\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/009_thumb3.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And they turned out quite deliciously beautiful, as well<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/0172.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none;
