1<\/sup> Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; 4<\/sup> For the word of the LORD is right and true; 6<\/sup> By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, 10<\/sup> The LORD foils the plans of the nations; 12<\/sup> Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, 16<\/sup> No king is saved by the size of his army; 20<\/sup> We wait in hope for the LORD; Sing to him a new song\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n there are many references to a new song in the <\/em><\/p>\n scriptures- most of them in the psalms. <\/em><\/p>\n What does it mean to sing a new song?<\/em><\/p>\n Is it about a change in tone or behaviour?<\/em><\/p>\n Or is it more about style and tune?<\/em><\/p>\n Does it require a change of attitude?<\/em><\/p>\n Perhaps we need to find some deeper meaning,<\/em><\/p>\n some hidden symbol or heightened understanding<\/em><\/p>\n of the text.<\/em><\/p>\n This psalm has 22 verses- and often that suggests that<\/em><\/p>\n the psalm is an acrostic<\/strong> psalm- each verse corresponding<\/em><\/p>\n with the Hebrew alphabet Alef to Tav. This is a very old<\/em><\/p>\n mnemonic device used by the Jewish people to signify<\/em><\/p>\n that the psalm is all inclusive \u2013 what we would say includes<\/em><\/p>\n everything from A to Z. The next Psalm \u201334- is an acrostic<\/em><\/p>\n psalm- but 33 is not. It is a NEW<\/strong> song. play skillfully, and shout for joy. <\/p>\n
he is faithful in all he does.
5<\/sup> The LORD loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love. <\/p>\n
