{"id":787,"date":"2009-11-18T09:37:31","date_gmt":"2009-11-18T13:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/?p=787"},"modified":"2009-11-18T09:37:31","modified_gmt":"2009-11-18T13:37:31","slug":"thankful-for-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=787","title":{"rendered":"Thankful for technology?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, I did write that.<\/p>\n<p>Two years ago, I wasn&#8217;t using a computer much- maybe once or twice a week to check email.<\/p>\n<p>Four years ago, I was just barely using a cell phone.<\/p>\n<p>Things have changed.&nbsp; Times have changed.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Meredith, I have changed.<\/p>\n<p>She bought me a cell phone because she wanted to get a hold of me when she had a free moment and that didn&#8217;t always coincide with my home time.<\/p>\n<p>She bought me a camera and gave me her lap top to use.<\/p>\n<p>And so here I am- on the computer daily.&nbsp; Blogging, emailing, Facebooking, and doing online college courses.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Am I thankful for the extra time I need to spend to keep up with that schedule?<\/p>\n<p>Not really.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t read as much.&nbsp; I don&#8217;t craft as much. And to be perfectly honest, I don&#8217;t clean my house as much.<\/p>\n<p>BUT- I had a phone in the car and Patty could warn us about the nor&#8217;easter and the closing of the causeway in enough time for us to get across.<\/p>\n<p>And I have some wonderful friends from blogging and Facebook that I wouldn&#8217;t know or be in touch with daily.<\/p>\n<p>AND- I can share my recipes and cooking tips with a wide range of people.<\/p>\n<p>So, yes, I am thankful for the opportunity to touch those around me in such a tangible yet technological way.<\/p>\n<p>And to illustrate my point- here&#8217;s a wonderful way to make oven baked chicken legs.<\/p>\n<p>Chicken drumsticks are always hard for me because they take so long to be done next to the bone.&nbsp; I bake them a long time and it is still reddish in the center.<\/p>\n<p>So, I looked at a LOT of cookbooks and picked up some hints that you might already have known.&nbsp; I didn&#8217;t until recently, however, so I&#8217;m going to share.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-043.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 043\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-043_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> The meat is so dense at the top that it takes a long time to cook.&nbsp; But if you cut the meat from the top of the bone all the way down to the thin part of the leg and pull it away from the bone&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-044.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 044\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-044_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Then flour the entire leg ( I use a mixture of flour and spices- salt, <a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-045.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 045\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-045_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> pepper, and Old Bay seasoning).<\/p>\n<p>Make sure you flour the cut side as well as the skin portion<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-046.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 046\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-046_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Then brown the leg in about 4 TBS of vegetable oil in a pan that can go into the oven. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-048.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 048\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-048_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Place foil loosely over the top of pan to keep your oven from getting &#8220;oiled&#8221; by the spit of frying chicken.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-049.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 049\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-049_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>And bake for 45 minutes to an hour at 350 degrees F.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-050.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"Nor'easter and home cooking 050\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/Noreaster-and-home-cooking-050_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>You will be so happy with the results- AND there is no reddish pink meat next to the bone.&nbsp; Add a salad and a baked potato and you have dinner!<\/p>\n<p>Yumm!&nbsp; I&#8217;m thankful for oven fried chicken today, too!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes, I did write that.
