{"id":5706,"date":"2012-04-07T15:28:59","date_gmt":"2012-04-07T19:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/?p=5706"},"modified":"2012-04-07T15:28:59","modified_gmt":"2012-04-07T19:28:59","slug":"hxb-spicy-and-hot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=5706","title":{"rendered":"HXB- Spicy and hot!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/0011.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"001\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/001_thumb1.jpg\" alt=\"001\" width=\"535\" height=\"358\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Good thing I only make these once a year!<\/p>\n<p>Because warm and slathered with butter- they are addicting.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 usually make these with a boiled potato base, <a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/2011\/04\/hot-cross-buns\/\">like the ones pictured here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But this year I followed a recipe my friend Joanna sent me.\u00a0 Only I didn\u2019t really.<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t use citron or fruit peel, except for my <a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/?s=candied+orange+peel&amp;op.x=18&amp;op.y=17\" target=\"_blank\">own homemade orange peel.<\/a>\u00a0 And I added<\/p>\n<p>currants.\u00a0 Mainly I just added cinnamon, ginger and cloves to a sweet roll dough and then<\/p>\n<p>put a cross on top.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/0051.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"005\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/005_thumb1.jpg\" alt=\"005\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I took some to a friend\u2019s house last night and shared some with Cynthia.<\/p>\n<p>And then we had some for breakfast-\u00a0 so there aren\u2019t many left.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s good- because they last a lot longer in the memory than they do in the mouth!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/0021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"002\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/002_thumb1.jpg\" alt=\"002\" width=\"478\" height=\"320\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the recipe for the add 1 tsp of ginger and cinnamon, and 1\/4 tsp<\/p>\n<p>cloves, 1\/4 cup fruit peel or zest from one lemon and one orange and 3\/4 cup currants.<\/p>\n<p>Roll recipe- makes about 3 dozen rolls.<br \/>\nIngredients;<br \/>\n6 cups all purpose flour<br \/>\n1 1\/2 cups milk ,scalded in microwave (about\u00a0 2 min on high)<br \/>\n1 stick butter or margarine<br \/>\n2 eggs<br \/>\n1\/2\u00a0 cup sugar<br \/>\n1 Tbs salt<br \/>\n2 Tbs yeast<br \/>\n1 cup warm water<br \/>\nscant tsp sugar<br \/>\nMethod:<br \/>\nPut flour, sugar and salt into large bowl and whisk together- form well in center of flour.\u00a0 Melt butter or margarine in the hot milk and set aside.\u00a0 Proof yeast (mix\u00a0 together yeast and sugar, stir in water and watch for growth reaction- it should start growing\u00a0 almost immediately).\u00a0 Beat eggs and pour into well, add milk mixture (butter should be completely melted) and stir until the flour and liquid are one mass.\u00a0 Add proofed yeast-(\u00a0 if the yeast didn\u2019t raise ,proof another batch, either it is too old or your water was too hot) and mix the whole mess into a sticky dough!\u00a0 Flour counter, dump dough onto flour , add some more on your hands and knead for at least 10 minutes.\u00a0 This is a Big ball of dough so put your muscles into it.\u00a0 Grease large bowl, form dough into a ball and allow to raise, covered, for at least an hour , until doubled in volume.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>HOT CROSS BUNS!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Good thing I only make these once a year!
