{"id":4960,"date":"2011-10-15T11:50:37","date_gmt":"2011-10-15T15:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/2011\/10\/fall-baking\/"},"modified":"2011-10-15T11:50:37","modified_gmt":"2011-10-15T15:50:37","slug":"fall-baking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=4960","title":{"rendered":"Fall baking\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When the temperature goes down, I am so happy to be baking.<\/p>\n<p>I love to eat bread and baked goods anytime.<\/p>\n<p>But heating up the kitchen in the fall and winter is just so smart-<\/p>\n<p>and eating carbs seems to right when it is colder out.<\/p>\n<p>SO- having said all of that-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/0021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"002\" border=\"0\" alt=\"002\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/002_thumb1.jpg\" width=\"244\" height=\"164\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I baked some very delicious seeded rye this last week.<\/p>\n<p>My slashes were too deep and the sourdough was very<\/p>\n<p>active and it kind of blew off the gluten cloak and bordered<\/p>\n<p>on exposing itself- but it was (is- I have half a loaf left for<\/p>\n<p>toasting!) delicious and hearty.<\/p>\n<p>And I made an orange cream cheese pound cake for Allyson\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>birthday.&#160; It was beautiful, inside and out- and so very toothsome!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/0071.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"007\" border=\"0\" alt=\"007\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/007_thumb1.jpg\" width=\"370\" height=\"248\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I love the look of farm fresh eggs- the yolks are so yellow!<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the recipe!<\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>1-8 oz package cream cheese, softened<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 c butter or shortening   <\/p>\n<p>1 2\/3 c granulated sugar<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs<\/p>\n<p>2 1\/4 c all-purpose flour<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>1 TBSP baking powder<\/p>\n<p>1 c milk<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 c chopped walnuts<\/p>\n<p>2 TBSP grated orange peel<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 c orange juice<\/p>\n<p><em>Method:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Combine cream cheese and shortening, creaming well. <\/p>\n<p>Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. <\/p>\n<p>Add eggs, beating well after each addition. <\/p>\n<p>Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. <\/p>\n<p>Stir in walnuts and orange peel. <\/p>\n<p>Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 8-1\/2 x 4-1\/2 x 3 inch loaf pans. <\/p>\n<p>Bake at 375 degrees F for 55 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. <\/p>\n<p>Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Then sprinkle orange juice or syrup over loaves. Remove to wire rack to finish cooling <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/0091.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"009\" border=\"0\" alt=\"009\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/009_thumb1.jpg\" width=\"433\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They were a little plain- so I added a streusel topping-<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup flour<\/p>\n<p>3 TBSP butter<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup sugar<\/p>\n<p>Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour and sugar and sprinkle over<\/p>\n<p>the batter and bake as above.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/0201.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"020\" border=\"0\" alt=\"020\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/020_thumb1.jpg\" width=\"484\" height=\"324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>YUM!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When the temperature goes down, I am so happy to be baking.
