This is the big week on Chincoteague!  Today they are rounding up the ponies<\/p>\n

to get ready for the swim across Assateague Bay on Wednesday!<\/p>\n

The Firemen\u2019s Carnival has been running since the beginning of July- visitors<\/p>\n

have filled the town to capacity in anticipation of the Auction \u2013 and it is hot<\/p>\n

and sultry on the Eastern shore of Virginia.<\/p>\n

This is THE week to be there.  I never have been there on Pony Penning Week.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been going to Chincoteague off and on for the last 30+ years- and have never<\/p>\n

gone  for this event.  <\/p>\n

I don\u2019t like crowds.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t want to buy a pony.<\/p>\n

Would rather see them on the estuary than in pens.<\/p>\n

And \u2013 did I mention- I don\u2019t like crowds?<\/p>\n

I always think about the ponies this week.<\/p>\n

In fact, I pray for their safety during the swim and that they will get owners that<\/p>\n

treat them lovingly.<\/p>\n

There were so many foals this summer- everywhere you looked- either pregnant mares<\/p>\n

or tiny foals and colts following their mommas around.  <\/p>\n

Here I sit \u2013 in Ohio- dreaming about wild ponies in Virginia.<\/p>\n
