This is my brother, Bruce.<\/p>\n

He lives in Portland, Oregon and I don\u2019t get<\/p>\n

to see him often.\u00a0 The last time I went to visit<\/p>\n

was about 9 years ago.\u00a0 We talk on the phone<\/p>\n

and he has a facebook account that he NEVER<\/p>\n

looks at, but it has been 9 years.<\/p>\n

So \u2013 tomorrow \u2013 Cynthia and I are flying to<\/p>\n

Oregon.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Growing up, he was my big brother<\/p>\n

(actually ALL three of my brothers were<\/p>\n

big brothers) but Bruce was also my friend.<\/p>\n

We talked- you know what I mean- about more<\/p>\n

than just the happenings of the day.<\/p>\n

He opened up windows into the future for me,<\/p>\n

helped me to see patterns in the world and to<\/p>\n

figure out where and how I could find a place to<\/p>\n

matter in life.\u00a0\u00a0 But like most of my siblings, he was<\/p>\n

a lot older and moved on in his life while I was still<\/p>\n

searching for a direction to follow.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And like me, Bruce is a recorder of places and people<\/p>\n

and events.\u00a0 Our stories remain consistent and match<\/p>\n

up- whereas our sibs stories are kind of vague and hazy-<\/p>\n

our memories are sharp and clear.<\/p>\n

This is important to me.<\/p>\n

I like to know that my memories aren\u2019t colored by time<\/p>\n

and emotion.\u00a0 I like to corroborate them with someone<\/p>\n

who also remembers.<\/p>\n

Because I\u2019m a great story teller- and I can shade a story to<\/p>\n

tell what is convenient or really just makes a better \u201cstory\u201d.<\/p>\n

So it is great to have some one else\u2019s memory to line up with,<\/p>\n

a ruler to measure up what is true and what is fantasy.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One week in nine years isn\u2019t really enough time to spend<\/p>\n

with someone you love.<\/p>\n
