<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not sure of the history (Wikipedia and Google both failed me in this department.)<\/p>\n<p>I may do some more research \u2013 but that will come later- if at all.<\/p>\n<p>It is moist and and toothsome, yet not dense, and the flavor is subtle, yet <\/p>\n<p>enticing.&#160; And I used a decorative sunflower pan to bake in and the<\/p>\n<p>end result was very pleasing.<\/p>\n<p>Pleasing.&#160; That is the word for this cake.&#160; Pleasing to the eye-<\/p>\n<p>pleasing to the palate- and not too much work.<\/p>\n<p>I gave this cake to friends.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/016.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; you need to make some burnt sugar syrup.<\/p>\n<p>Put 3\/4 cup sugar in heavy skillet and brown it on medium high until it is dark, watch <\/p>\n<p>it- you really don\u2019t want it to burn.&#160; Then add 1\/2 cup boiling water, stir well and <\/p>\n<p>continue cooking until it is reduced and thick as molasses.<\/p>\n<p>I made a larger amount and kept it in a bottle and use it when I <\/p>\n<p>WANT this cake.&#160; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"021\" border=\"0\" alt=\"021\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/021_thumb.jpg\" width=\"304\" height=\"454\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And now for the cake!<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<p>3 cups AP\/plain flour<\/p>\n<p>2 tsp baking powder<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 tsp salt<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 cup butter- softened to room temp.<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cups sugar<\/p>\n<p>2 eggs,divided<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup burnt sugar syrup<\/p>\n<p>1 tsp vanilla<\/p>\n<p>1 cup water<\/p>\n<p>3\/4 cup milk<\/p>\n<p>Method:<\/p>\n<p>Sift together flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>Cream butter and sugar , using mixer until light and fluffy.<\/p>\n<p>Separate eggs and beat whites until peaks form- set aside..)<\/p>\n<p>Add egg yolks to butter and sugar,beat until smooth and <\/p>\n<p>then add burnt sugar, vanilla and water.<\/p>\n<p>Add flour mixture and beat until smooth, add milk to make it<\/p>\n<p>into a pourable batter.&#160; Fold in egg whites.<\/p>\n<p>Pour into pans- it will make 18-24 cupcakes or 2 8 inch cake pans.<\/p>\n<p>Bake at 350 F for 20 to 25 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>To make icing, make a buttercream icing and add 3 TBS burnt sugar <\/p>\n<p>syrup.&#160; ( 1\/2 cup soft butter, 1 cup icing sugar, vanilla and burnt sugar syrup, <\/p>\n<p>and 3 TBS milk or hot water, beaten together)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none;
