{"id":2575,"date":"2010-08-21T22:17:42","date_gmt":"2010-08-22T02:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/?p=2575"},"modified":"2010-08-21T22:17:42","modified_gmt":"2010-08-22T02:17:42","slug":"psalm-71-my-hope-is-in-you-lord-for-all-of-my-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=2575","title":{"rendered":"psalm 71- My hope is in You, Lord, for all of my days."},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Psalm 71<\/h6>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup> In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; let me never be put to shame. <\/p>\n<p><sup>2<\/sup> Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; turn your ear to me and save me. <\/p>\n<p><sup>3<\/sup> Be my rock of refuge,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; to which I can always go;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; give the command to save me,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; for you are my rock and my fortress. <\/p>\n<p><sup>4<\/sup> Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; from the grasp of evil and cruel men. <\/p>\n<p><sup>5<\/sup> For you have been my hope, O Sovereign LORD,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; my confidence since my youth. <\/p>\n<p><sup>6<\/sup> From birth I have relied on you;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; you brought me forth from my mother&#8217;s womb.     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; I will ever praise you. <\/p>\n<p><sup>7<\/sup> I have become like a portent to many,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; but you are my strong refuge. <\/p>\n<p><sup>8<\/sup> My mouth is filled with your praise,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; declaring your splendor all day long. <\/p>\n<p><sup>9<\/sup> Do not cast me away when I am old;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; do not forsake me when my strength is gone. <\/p>\n<p><sup>10<\/sup> For my enemies speak against me;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; those who wait to kill me conspire together. <\/p>\n<p><sup>11<\/sup> They say, &quot;God has forsaken him;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; pursue him and seize him,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; for no one will rescue him.&quot; <\/p>\n<p><sup>12<\/sup> Be not far from me, O God;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; come quickly, O my God, to help me. <\/p>\n<p><sup>13<\/sup> May my accusers perish in shame;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; may those who want to harm me     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; be covered with scorn and disgrace. <\/p>\n<p><sup>14<\/sup> But as for me, I will always have hope;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; I will praise you more and more. <\/p>\n<p><sup>15<\/sup> My mouth will tell of your righteousness,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; of your salvation all day long,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; though I know not its measure. <\/p>\n<p><sup>16<\/sup> I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, O Sovereign LORD;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; I will proclaim your righteousness, yours alone. <\/p>\n<p><sup>17<\/sup> Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. <\/p>\n<p><sup>18<\/sup> Even when I am old and gray,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; do not forsake me, O God,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; till I declare your power to the next generation,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; your might to all who are to come. <\/p>\n<p><sup>19<\/sup> Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; you who have done great things.     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; Who, O God, is like you? <\/p>\n<p><sup>20<\/sup> Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; you will restore my life again;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; from the depths of the earth     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; you will again bring me up. <\/p>\n<p><sup>21<\/sup> You will increase my honor     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; and comfort me once again. <\/p>\n<p><sup>22<\/sup> I will praise you with the harp     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; for your faithfulness, O my God;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; I will sing praise to you with the lyre,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; O Holy One of Israel. <\/p>\n<p><sup>23<\/sup> My lips will shout for joy     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; when I sing praise to you&#8212;     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; I, whom you have redeemed. <\/p>\n<p><sup>24<\/sup> My tongue will tell of your righteous acts     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; all day long,     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; for those who wanted to harm me     <br \/>&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; have been put to shame and confusion.<\/p>\n<p><em>Psalm 71 is the longest psalm I have posted.&#160; And it encompasses the longest period of time within it for an individual- from verse 6, where he is delivered&#160; from his mother&#8217;s womb to verse18, &quot;&#8230;when I am old and gray&quot;, &#8211; a lifetime of trust and hope.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>It is a good thing to stop and look backward and forward and see that God is always at work.&#160; The questions that trouble us when we are at our weakest point can be answered by the life long experience of walking, waiting on and trusting in the Lord.&#160; <br \/>Verse 20 asks the question, &quot;Who, O God, is like you?&quot;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And that question brings with it a wealth of other voices.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We can hear the voices of Israel at the feast of the Passover, asking this question- and in the following verses we see a testimony to God&#8217;s salvation through the Exodus- we ask the question in unison and receive the answer of His faithful redemption.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is a timely psalm- it leads us in the progression through time- vv 8, 15,and 24 all have the phrase &quot; all day long&quot;.&#160; The psalmist looks his life and sees that God in continuously&#160; at work, vv 3,6, and 14 &#8211; God is always there to save, to be relied upon and to give hope- ALWAYS.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I have heard and read that this psalm is one for the aged- to contemplate in one&#8217;s old age- but I think it is a psalm about hope in real life terms.&#160; Not as a fragile promise in the future.&#160; Hope is a long and patient waiting in spite of delay and disappointment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>My hope is in you, Lord, for all of my days.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Psalm 71 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; &#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; let me never be put to shame. 2 Rescue me and deliver me in your righteousness; &#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160;&#160; turn your ear to me and save me. 3 Be my &hellip; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=2575\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[12],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2575","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-spiritualinsights"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2575","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=2575"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2575\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=2575"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=2575"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=2575"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
