{"id":2453,"date":"2010-08-11T11:01:26","date_gmt":"2010-08-11T15:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/?p=2453"},"modified":"2010-08-11T11:01:26","modified_gmt":"2010-08-11T15:01:26","slug":"there-will-always-be-bread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.heidiannie.com\/?p=2453","title":{"rendered":"There will always be bread&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My new motto.<\/p>\n<p>Once, long ago, someone asked me&nbsp; what was my philosophy of bread.<\/p>\n<p>It was not an innocent or friendly question.<\/p>\n<p>This person was not my friend and by the way she asked the question I realized she was not interested in becoming my friend.<\/p>\n<p>I shouldn&#8217;t have answered her question.<\/p>\n<p>Now I would look at her and lift my left eyebrow as I looked over my glasses quizzically at her and smile slightly.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I felt obligated to be sociable, if not nice, to such inquiries.<\/p>\n<p>So I stammered &#8221; Philosophy of bread?&nbsp; I like to make it and I love to eat it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Major fail &#8211; in her opinion- she smirked and walked away.<\/p>\n<p>So, I found a working philosophy to hand out to my students when I was teaching bread baking and shaping classes-<a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/image.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"239\" alt=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/image_thumb.png\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>And it still works for me.&nbsp; But it was just a safe substitute because I was still in the &#8211; make it- eat it- phase of my life.<\/p>\n<p>Then, we went on a family vacation where we rented a home with a fully stocked kitchen.&nbsp; The island we were staying on had two choices for bread, soft-unflavored white loaf and dry and heavy wheat bread.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>The first day there I made bread.&nbsp; Two glorious high rising chewy and crunchy loaves that smelled like a bit of heaven.&nbsp;&nbsp; My family thanked me and I responded to them my real philosophy of bread.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wherever I am &#8211; there will always be bread.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today, I am making bread with flour I ground-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/things-in-my-kitchen-010.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"244\" alt=\"things in my kitchen 010\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/things-in-my-kitchen-010_thumb.jpg\" width=\"184\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/sourdough-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"sourdough 002\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/sourdough-002_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>and sourdough starter I&#8217;ve been keeping-<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/pesto-and-caraway-002.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" height=\"180\" alt=\"pesto and caraway 002\" src=\"http:\/\/heidiannie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/pesto-and-caraway-002_thumb.jpg\" width=\"239\" border=\"0\"><\/a> <\/p>\n<p>and caraway seeds I&#8217;ve grown and harvested.<\/p>\n<p>( I left the seeds too long in the garden- because I wanted them to self seed some plants for next year and it has been too hot to check everyday.<\/p>\n<p>I left them over long- which has brought me to come to another philosophy-<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Anything that crawls away should be allowed to depart in peace.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>eww.&nbsp; )<\/p>\n<p>Any way, I&#8217;m off to make bread- which I still like to do-<\/p>\n<p>and later, we will eat it- which I still LOVE to do.<\/p>\n<p>Because, <strong>where ever I am , there will always be bread.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At least, that is my philosophy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; My new motto.
